As far back as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be
a gangster. Sorry, I meant to say writer – been watching
Goodfellas too many times, evidently. It is fair to say
that writing, drawing, music and being generally creative
have always held a strong appeal to me and I feel that
imagination is a wonderful gift and one that we all share!
In short, it is the best weapon in combating drab,
mundane reality…Personal history wise, after an
awesome amount of shit jobs, a bit of travelling and
plenty of writing (including a fair few aborted novels) I
took a degree course in Journalism at the London
College of Communication. I graduated from there this
Summer and am now pursing some kind of ‘career’ in
this most respectable of professions.

Currently listening to – 60's freakbeat (nuggets),
Engineers, God Speed You Black Emperor, Stars, King
Creosote, Syd Barrett
Favourite Films – Blade Runner, The Loneliness of the
Long Distance Runner, Magnolia, Donnie Darko,
everything David Lynch has done (apart from Dune) and
Back to the Future.
Would love to interview – Julian Cope, David Lynch,
anyone with half a brain (how discerning!)

The world of music does not revolve around certain weekly

Currently listening to: 'First Impressions Of Earth' by The
Strokes, 'Pet Sounds' by The Beach Boys.
Currently reading: 'Margrave of the Marshes' by John Peel.

I love documentary portrait, art and music photography. I studied photography
back in New Zealand last year, but have been interested in it for years, taking
as many photos as possible. I like being creative and have thought of lots of
little projects I'd love to do! I want to travel all over the world taking
documentary/portrait photos of places and people. I'm having fun taking
photos for Soma Soma Scene!

CURRENTLY LISTENING TO: The Strokes, Kaps, The Blackseeds.
CURRENTLY READING: Recently read Memoirs of a Geisha and The Bell Jar.
FAVOURITE FILM: City of God.

My life thus far has been characterized by an equal interest in things scientific and
things artistic. Soma Soma Scene is a great place for me to indulge and explore
my artistic leanings. I currently spend my time working and wandering around the
midwestern and eastern United States, dancing, and digging deeper into my
musical interests. To me, nothing is greater than stumbling upon a great band,
artist, album and then getting to spread the word. I'm always on the look out for
that next song that makes me want to sing out loud.
CURRENTLY LISTENING TO: The Decemberists, 'Picaresque.'
CURRENTLY READING:"Under the Glacier" by Halldor Laxness (a really interesting
read I stumbled on) and "Amphigorey" by Edward Gorey  (I love Edward Gorey, so
macabre).
FAVOURITE FILMS:The Princess Bride (my fav. as a kid), The Silence of the
Lambs, and Donnie Darko.
WOULD LOVE TO INTERVIEW: The Pixies.

I came up with the idea of Soma Soma Scene after a durable relationship with Oscar
Wilde throughout my adult years. This is true. I wanted to re-create the ambience,
passion and histrionics that once surrounded London in the times of Wilde and the
Yellow Lily Brigade and that has remained a beating pulse in my heart ever since I
first read about these aesthetic crusaders. You see, back in the day, art, languages,
science, theatre, music and fashion were revered and celebrated. What we have
today, is just a mere dilution of talent and fascination with the ‘celebrity.’
SSS aims to speak truths about the inspirational and talented artists we meet and
gives them an accommodating platform on which to speak about anything and
everything. We aim to preserve the art of conversation, fascination of reading and
flair of writing. Wilde divulged in intelligent speak with thespians, scientists, poets
and artists, he only wore bespoke suits and had a penchant to live life fully. And
that my friends, is what I intend for us, as 'all art is quite useless.'
CURRENTLY LISTENING TO: Hess Is More 'Captain Europe' and Racine.
FAVOURITE FILMS: Drop Dead Fred, Requiem For A Dream and Audition.
WOULD LOVE TO INTERVIEW: My grandfather (Nepalese poet/author), Björk and Rik
Mayall. I'd love to spend a day as Patti Smith's shadow. Then I'd die happy.  Also,
The Raveonettes again..they're fun...

Having spent the last year working as a Copywriter in Mauritius for an Advertising
and PR agency, I am now back in the UK, looking to make it over here. I have
always loved words and being creative and through my writing, I hope to bring
people into the world I am in and let them share the experience with me. On a
more personal level, I love having a good time whether it's at home or in a bar. I
love that feeling that you get when your stomach muscles hurt through laughing
too much and there are tears rolling down your face. I love piercings and tattoos,
especially on people that I wouldn’t expect to have them. I love watching movies
and stuff on the Discovery channel. I love good food and doughnuts from Brighton
pier.
Music: I'm really into Rnb, Hip Hop, Reggae, Ragga, Bashment and Jungle but
you will also catch me listening and singing to classic ballads and love songs.
Currently reading: Bill Bryson’s ‘A short history of nearly everything’ but have fallen
in love with Dan Brown’s books and want him to write some more soon.
Favourite quote: "Any true feeling cannot in reality be expressed. To do so is to
betray it. An image, an allegory, a form of disguising what it means to reveal, has
more meaning to the mind than the enlightenment brought about by words or
their analysis" - Antonin Artaud

A true journeyman through this life, I owe my education far more to the school
of hard knocks, than any actual institution of higher learning.  As such, I find
myself this jack of multiple skills, rather than a master of just one.  Sometime
music composer, keyboardist, writer, photographer and web forum
moderator, I have the resources of New York City and its surroundings to
prop me up when mere creativity fails.
CURRENTLY LISTENING TO: Daniel Ash - Foolish Thing Desire (such a foolish
thing desire, and there's always someone somewhere wants to break your
heart ,but I can always get oh so much higher).
CURRENTLY READING: All the articles on Soma Soma Scene ;-)  (no, really).
FAVOURITE FILMS: 'True Romance' (Tarrantino is brilliant and for me ,this is
his most entertaining film), 'About Schmidt' (Jack Nicholson is a genius) and
'The Basketball Diaries' (based on the life of poet Jim Carroll).

Currently spilling from my speakers: Swod, Gehen - delicate filmic piano
and strings layered with random electronic flickerment and chatter; The Mars
Volta, Frances the Mute - rich, evolutionary and triptych; Swans - all sorts.
Currently reading: various works of Daniil Kharms - Russian writer of
poetry, fiction and utter nonsense.
I have grown from a background in film and law into some sort of a
hybrid creature, with an aesthetic temperament.  Lately, I have spent a
considerable portion of my time travelling the world, tapping into as
many cultures as possible in search of truth, beauty and whatever else ...
Peter Van Den Berg:
People describe me as a notorious smoker and loco. Don't
know why to be honest. Think it has something to do with
my appearance: tall, blue-eyed and beautiful sideburns :-)
I mainly listen to rock music - Presidents of USA are a big
number 1; fun-rock, folk pop as I like to call it, pretty much
represents my character. I will keep you guys up to date with
what's going on in the scene in Holland...so no reports about
Amsterdam's cannabis, mills and wooden clogs!
