WHAT'S NEW PUSSYCAT?!
WOAH OH OH OH!
WE INTRODUCE OUR PICK OF LITTLE HOTTIES WHO DESERVE A LISTEN IN THIS FINE NEW YEAR

THE WHISKY CATS
Carrying on the tradition of being fabulous and from Manchester, The
Whisky Cats do things the cool and uncontrived way. Take jazz, indie
and pop, 10 minute improvs that only trained jazz musicians can
enviously handle and this gives you some idea as to where they’re
coming from. The band are gigging up and down the country and beat
off thousands of other bands to grab the only unsigned act slot at last
year’s Fruitstock. “Fruitstock has been the biggest moment for us so
far”, singer Matt tells us. “We’re putting out singles soon while doing
lots of gigs”. And can you shed more on your backgrounds? “We’re all
trained jazz musicians”, he says. “We like playing long sets and
improvising on stage and I think crowds really warm to it as they don’t
usually expect it when they go to see a band play”. Right on, brother.
Speaking of brothers, did families influence your decisions to be
professional musicians? “Definitely not in my case. I came from a
religious family so it was mostly Church music at home when I was
growing up. I had to go out and discover music by myself". To discover
is to conquer. We look forward to seeing and hearing more from The
Whisky Cats. For more info:

WINTER ROBERTS
Ah there’s nothing like sipping on Mojitos in a café in Havana watching the girls go by and
listening to some funky local Cuban music in the background…sweet heaven. Unfortunately for
those of us who have never been to Cuba but like to think we’ve got the looks, souls and moves
of gorgeous Latinos, fear not! Winter Roberts is a salsa/latin/jazz outfit who bring smiles and
dreams in their quirky, upbeat way. Singer Miles tells us, “we head out to Cuba soon to shoot
the video for our new single (Lalala In My Life) soon. It’ll be fabulous!” Miles has had an eclectic,
gypsy lifestyle that has led him to live and work in Germany, the Caribbean and now mighty
London. By securing a residency at Prince Wills’ fav hangout, Malmiljani, he has also wowed
London’s Richlist. Signed to LA label Sidewalk7, the band are currently finalizing their album
due to be released later this year. Miles also plans to bring on flamenco guitarist Jackson Scott
as a guest. “He’s a wonderful guitarist and great friend. We look forward to doing some more
stuff together. He recently came on stage with me at a gig in London and we had a great
time…we had a brass band with us and the atmosphere was terrific.” Check out

PUBLIC SYMPHONY
Take heed of the newest and grooviest concept band to come out of
London. Dobs and James aka Public Symphony are the duo behind this
indie/dance/ambient act. So how did it all come together? “We’ve both
worked in the music industry doing other things and thought it would
make sense to write our songs for ourselves and perform them by
ourselves as well.” So what is the conceptual element to the band? “We
get each of our songs made into film/animation and show them at various
venues (SSS will be playing a vid at our next multimedia night Jan 29th).”
Why so? “Well our music is very positive and we have specific places
where we’d like to perform it – most of the places we want to play are
natural, beautiful landscapes that would be the best backdrop to our
music.” Also a common theme the band philosophize about is that of
Everyman. “It’s a concept that arises in our video for ‘Stronger’; the sense
of the average man battling through all sorts of odds to get through just
one day in his life. But his battling makes him stronger and happy when
he gets through it all.” For positive beats and soaring melodies go to

night.
PUGGY
We love it when bands are made up of international
members and jazz/punk outfit Puggy seem to love it
too. An English singer/guitarist, Belgian bassist
and Swedish drummer came together a couple
years ago and formed Puggy – winners of the
unsigned band slot at Readling/Leeds 2005. They
draw inspiration from literature (“I love Oscar
Wilde”, singer Matthew says. “I also delve into a lot
of French philosophy which has interested me
since school”). Of their Reading/Leeds experience,
drummer Ziggy says that it was a pretty wild ride. “It
was pretty manic doing a gig then jumping straight
up on the bus and driving up to do the same gig on
the same line-up the next day! However we made
lots of friends on the journey and the backstage
camping was fun. Although no one’s really there for
sleeping!” For more info:
